The centre-back missed Sunday’s clash vs Manchester United after picking up an adductor injury in December, but Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on his fitness.
Liverpool faced Manchester United at Anfield with a makeshift defence consisting of two midfielders. Fabinho and Jordan Henderson stepped into the roles in place of the injured Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip, but the latter looks set to return in time for Liverpool’s next Premier League game.
The champions will host Sean Dyche’s Burnley side at Anfield on Thursday, and Jurgen Klopp is hopeful that Joel Matip will be returning to action in time to play.
“He will be in the mix, but I don’t know,” he told Liverpoolfc.com.
“I’m pretty sure he trained today, another tough session, [that] means [he] will be from tomorrow on with us. Probably yes, we don’t know.”
