(Video) Everton player sent off for an awful tackle in the U23 Merseyside derby

To the surprise of absolutely nobody, Everton have received yet another red card in a Merseyside derby.

Liverpool’s 20/21 season will be defined by a clear before-and-after point, that point being the Merseyside derby at Goodison in October. Horrific challenges from Jordan Pickford and Richarlison left Virgil Van Dijk and Thiago injured, with the former out for the entire season.

The incidents were written off by many as unfortunate, but for long-time fans, it’s clear to see that it wasn’t an isolated incident.

Last night, the two clubs met again, this time with the under 23 squads facing off at Southport FC’s Haig Avenue. The game ended as a draw– just like the first teams’ clash, and the story was all too familiar.

In the 86th minute, Everton youngster Katia Kouyate cleaned-out Liverpool’s Elijah Dixon-Bonner and received a straight red card.

Fortunately, Dixon-Bonner’s leg wasn’t planted during the collision, and he was able to play on.
